Santa Cruz and The Mystery Spot

Another item on my bucket list was a place called The Mystery Spot. So after my adventure day in Sequoia National Forest I drove over 5 hours to Santa Cruz.

I came across the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, while looking for other places to explore in Santa Cruz. Outside the Discovery Center you can view full skeletons of a Grey Whale and Blue Whale along with some informational plaques about sea life. This made our morning walk along the coast more enjoyable.

A short drive later we found our way to Natural Bridges Beach where the waves have carved out keyholes in the rocks. Dogs are allowed in the lookout area/parking lots but not the beach. I did make it up to Miss Reagan later in the day. Natural Bridges Beach.

Our next destination was the “mystery spot,” and we didn’t really know what to expect. This illusion-based tourist attraction is in the middle of the woods, down a windy one lane road. When you get there you find a really unique tourist attraction, including a souvenir shop, food and plenty of photo opportunities. The tours are $8 a person, plus $5 per vehicle for parking, cash or check only and tours last about 45 minutes.

After walking up a steep hill, your tour guide then shows you the house which we were told was built higher up but slid down the hill to the center of the mystery spot. The house is slanted at a 17-20 degree angle and allows for some unique opportunities for photos. It was fun watching the compass dials going in all directions, along with the demonstrations of off balanced levels and gravity defying illusions. Our tour guide was great at cracking punny jokes the entire time. Which is always entertaining. I left this place in wonder, not sure if there was something magnetic going on or if it was all an illusion. Either way I felt like my equilibrium was off for hours. I highly recommend going.

If you have visited this unique place, what are your thoughts or what was your experience there?
