Day 3 - On the Road Again

Shortly after we turned onto Highway 89A, before Marble Canyon, there is the Navajo Bridge. I recommend you pull over. This bridge, completed in 1928, sits atop the Colorado River. At the time it was the highest steel arch bridge in the world, providing the much needed access between Arizona and Utah.

There are two bridges here, the now historic pedestrian bridge was used for automobiles but as time went on the need for a larger bridge became apparent. The views from the bridge are amazing. The water was a bright green surrounded by red cliffs. The architectural aspect of the bridge contrasted the natural environment of Glen Canyon.

A little farther down the road in Marble Canyon, we pulled over and enjoyed some bolder climbing. Now it was time to get back on the road and get some driving done.

The drive was great. It was fun seeing the changing landscape. We stopped in Kaibab National Forest after we drove past miles of burned trees. A total of 71,450 acres burned in the Magnum Fire which had started just months earlier on June 8th. It was nice seeing some growth among the scorched surroundings, but devastating to see how much was lost.

We finally made it to Utah!!! When we made it to St. George, we ordered a pizza from Riggattis Wood Fire Pizza and took it back to our hotel. It was a successful road trip day and I was looking forward to the day Ben had planned for tomorrow.
