Day 1 - Pandemic Road Trip - Setting out for Adventure

We packed the SUV with the usual road trip necessities. This time, it included Lysol, masks, and lots of hand sanitizer. Leaving home around 1PM, we made our way toward Arizona in the middle of August during a heat wave...the ideal travel time to go to the desert ;)

Ben and I decided on Sedona, AZ as the first stop on our road trip. Honestly, we didn't really plan this trip. We looked up fun destinations that allowed for social distancing. Some of the locations we wanted to visit were closed due to Covid 19... I foresee another road trip soon! We were road warriors the first day of our trip. We drove the entire way to Sedona, with one stop at a rest area.

Arriving in Sedona in the evening around 8PM, with most of the restaurants closing at 9pm. Looking at yelp, we ventured to where the majority of restaurants are in uptown. We lucked out. We ate on the patio at a restaurant called 'Cowboy Club', known for its bbq and steaks. Ben ordered their Cowboy BBQ Plate, which offered a variety of meats. I opted for the Crispy Fried Chicken. The food was good and the comfort food hit the spot after the long drive. This also gave us the opportunity to figure out where we were staying for the night.

We found the Southwest Inn At Sedona, which worked out perfectly. With everything going on in the world, we preferred the outdoor access to the room. The decor was cute with a southwestern theme and even included a fireplace. Looking up a couple of the dog friendly hikes for the next day, we realized our hotel was 5 minutes away from the beginning of the trailhead for Devils Bridge Trail. Now, time to get some rest before our big day tomorrow!
